You can't believe how high the demand is for frontend devs who specialise in accessibility. These days I have at least one meeting a week with a potential client and I'm not even actively searching.
They even ask for up to 3 or 4 full days a week for long-term commitments and for willingness to travel regularly. In some countries it's really hard to find local experts.
@matuzo I would love to help with this. And i love how people shout "hire for HTML and CSS!". But all I see are job offerings for corporate JengaScript framework bullshit under the name Frontend Developer. 😔
@sebastianlaube @matuzo me too, but maybe I need to sell myself better/more. Will have to get on that
@Anneke @matuzo Yea the same for me. Time for a website redesign (the Achilles Heel of every frontend dev), I guess.
@matuzo Are these requests coming from Germany or from all over Europe/Earth?
@meduz Mostly Germany and Austria but here and there also from other countries in Europe (e.g. Spain), but I guess that's because I'm not really well known outside of Austria and Germany.
@matuzo @meduz Lass mal quatschen. Vielleicht kann ich was davon übernehmen, je nach Umfang und Kunde.

@matuzo

ich sollte mich evtl. wieder selbständig machen? :-)

@matuzo is there some legal change this driving this? Because here in the US, it’s a struggle to get people to care.

@cferdinandi “As of 28 June 2025, customers will be able to file complaints before national courts or authorities if services or products do not respect the new rules.”

https://ec.europa.eu/social/main.jsp?catId=1202&intPageId=5581&langId=en

@matuzo with Trump, taking office, I expect the exact opposite will happen here: a loosening of accessibility laws.
@cferdinandi @matuzo Not me hearing that and getting concerned when working in an end-to-end accessibility consultant firm on USA 😬
@matuzo Would you have any pointers for someone interested in getting a start within the web accessiblity field?

@matuzo I need to add an asterisk to that affirmation

The demand is high* if you live in a country with decent accessibility legislation. Here in Colombia, for example, this is not the case.

My suggestion for folks outside the USA or Europe is to learn English, which helps get more opportunities, that certainly helped me out!

@matuzo Well I wish those potential clients would get in touch bc I need to work
@matuzo that sounds great. Swedish companies have not really understood that this requires a special skill set yet. As long as you know React you’re good. How hard can it be.
