I think it's OK that Scorsese has focused on male characters throughout his career. I don't think people have to justify this by saying 'What about Alice Doesn't Live here Any More?' or 'Well, yes, but his films are often about what we might now call "toxic masculinity"' or that there are some strong female characters in his films.
You want an industry in which there is equity and therefore a variety of voices and stories. You don't need to micromanage every individual director
