One cheer for the @guardian for its decision to quit posting on Twitter.

It would be two cheers if the Guardian told its journalists to stop using -- and thereby supporting -- Musk's toxic business. Nope.

And it would be three cheers if the Guardian stopped embedding Twitter posts in its articles. No such luck there, either.

One out of three is better than zero.

Why the Guardian is no longer posting on X

We will stop posting from our official editorial accounts on the platform, but X users can still share our articles

The Guardian
@dangillmor @guardian now if only @cbcnews would also stop embedding tweets - especially the hateful and misogynistic ones. Those voices don’t need your support and amplification.

@dangillmor @guardian I doubt The Guardian will have an official presence in the Fediverse but it would be nice if they bothered to change their settings on Threads as they're stopping the Fediverse from following (They already have 1 million followers on Threads).

@dangillmor @guardian Twitter widgets are a real scourge. I use Privacy Badger to block them so all I see is an empty box.

One cheer is definitely better than no cheers right now!

Link in line one goes to page that has no new posts. πŸ€”

@dangillmor @guardian I wonder if they will be moving to Mastodon?

@bibliolater @dangillmor @guardian

They may well be - this account was made on 5 Nov last week: @guardian

No posts yet, but hopefully it's an official account.

@dangillmor maybe once they realized the world didn't end they will work on the other two?
@dangillmor it would be great if they also created a mastodon account
@dangillmor @guardian That third cheer looks like it's warranted now!

Attached: 1 image Impressed that #the_guardian has today not only ceased posting on X, letting go of 27 million collective followers – I just noticed in a live feed where they might once have written 'so and so posted on X' or embedded a Tweet, they wrote 'posted this on social media' then quote the tweet…

@dangillmor @guardian Also, far far too late. Their Neoliberal business model and political stance is fully on show here.
@dangillmor @guardian One step at a time. I think Journalists will be attracted to mastodon if they can get the same interaction. I think the various instances also make it a little trickier, that and it does mean starting all over again.
