Ahou Daryaei. Say Her Name.

This is a thread of artwork inspired by Iranian protestor Ahou Daryaei. I'll be adding to it daily.

The point of the thread and the artwork is the same. To keep her name in the public eye every day until she is released.

@ProjectFearlessness I find this image in bad taste. Picturing her as some kind of sex symbol is rather inappropriate.
@sibrosan @ProjectFearlessness
How is that portraying her as a sex symbol?
Aren't you just pandering to the very thing that she was protesting about?
@Hairyloon @ProjectFearlessness Are you accusing *me* of that? The absurdity.
@sibrosan @ProjectFearlessness
You appear to be saying that she is a sex symbol, just because she isn't covered up.

@Hairyloon @ProjectFearlessness

You simply (and erroneously) assume that that is why I'm saying that.

Do you really see no difference between what she looks like in the actual video captures and how she's drawn in this image?

@sibrosan @ProjectFearlessness
I don't recall her being on a pedestal in the videos, nor being mobbed by a giant Twitter-bird.
Don't see how either of those things sexualises her.

@Hairyloon @ProjectFearlessness

What about the stance, lower cut panties, painted in nipples, suggesting she's a "Venus"... well forget it, you're just trolling.

@sibrosan @ProjectFearlessness
Venus was, among other things, the Goddess of victory.
@ProjectFearlessness
I would say it, but I think I would say it wrong...
@Hairyloon
If it helps, as the name has been translated from the Arabic alphabet to the Latin alphabet phonetically, I'm not even sure if I'm spelling it right. It really doesn't matter.
@ProjectFearlessness Where have they taken her? A mental facility or death? What a brave woman.
@Doreen32128
A mental facility according to a government statement. No independent verification as yet.

@ProjectFearlessness

It's Farsi, not Arabic. I don't know Farsi but I can read it and put it in google translate: "Ahou's life is in danger". Sounds correct.

Incredibly sad how many people here are saying those images are sexualising her. It's literally a woman in her undies, if you think that's inherently sexual, then that just says a lot about you. She protested against exactly this.

Good thread.

@bess
Thanks for the translation. I know there's a difference between Farsi and Arabic but I can't spot it in writing. I must get some translation software that works. I will go edit this now. Thanks again.

@ProjectFearlessness you're welcome 😊

It's difficult to spot the difference in writing. I actually only guessed this was Farsi because of the context, but it might just as well have been Urdu. I could only tell it wasn't Arabic.

Btw "translation software" sounds nice but asking the crowd is totally valid as well!

@bess Yes, none of the text reader software I have tried so far work on anything but the latin alphabet. I've a feeling they're all like that, so maybe asking the crowd would be better.
@ProjectFearlessness Students are there to be taught, not arrested. As a university teaching pro I feel very strongly about this. Education should be a safe space where people get a chance to disagree, to explore and exchange new knowledge and values and to let their minds be changed by that. So very sad to see all these young bright and engaged minds being tortured into submission (or worse)... #AhouDaryaei #MahsaAmini #WomanLifeFreedom
@kmmich
You're exactly right. Students in Iran seem to have it especially tough. If they want to get through their education and obtain their qualifications they have to submit or rather be seen to submit to the rules.
@ProjectFearlessness Do we know her whereabouts yet? Did they murder her?
@Doreen32128
The last official mention was on Friday when the regime said she was alive and being transferred to a specialist psychiatric hospital.
That's all there is to go on. All I know is the more attention this story gets, and the more politicians keep bringing the case up, the less likely she is to come to serious harm.
