Thinking of becoming a counselor in my middle age. 🤔 As mental health awareness grows, I feel my life experience and recent studies in philosophy could really help others. 🌟

What do you think about prospects for counselors between 2024 and 2039? Are we entering a golden age of empathetic guidance? 💬

@Lottie I've had similar thoughts, but I worry that I overestimate my capacity to have enough professional distance
@Zumbador I know exactly what you mean. I was very surprised to find out it takes four years part time to train as a counsellor in the UK. And you are counselling although practice counselling for almost very first week. So there will be lots of chances to take stock along the way. I’m more worried that it’ll all be done by AI in five years time! I can’t decide if it’s the worst idea or the best idea of what to do in the next 5 to 10 years.🤷‍♀️
@Lottie There are certainly more people in need of help nowadays, and not enough professionals to help them, and I think you would do well as a counselor.
@technocounselor Thanks. My therapist certainly helped me after I was widowed of course we didn’t expect a pandemic so nobody thought it would take six years! But now I’m finally the overall lot I can consider learning to help other people thanks.🙇‍♀️
