It was a huge honour for me today with Raphael to posthumously hand over the European #SFSAward 2024 to #vim developer Bram Moolenaar for his invaluable contributions to the #FreeSoftware community.

If you are a #vim user, have been an #vim user, or admire Bram's work, please boost this message.

Would also like to thank Bram's family, old co-workers, and friends, who talked to me before the awards to provide some additional background.

@kirschner Everyone is a vim user. Some love it, others just opened it once, but don't know how to exit! 😁

Kidding aside, great recognition. Thankful for Bram and his legacy.

#vim

@arongergely @kirschner That was indeed a significant hurdle when I first started using Linux in the 90's. It was just assumed you could use vi and so that's what you were tossed into first thing.

OpenBSD was worse. It tossed you in with 'ed'.

Now my "IDE" is vim with some plugins inside a tux.

@kirschner Try :smile in vim! Rip Braam.
@dbat OMG. Using vim since 1999 now, but I have never seen that.

@kirschner @dbat

Ascii Grumpy Cat? How you do that?

My vim's :smile just gives me the Hitchhiker's Guide ear-thumber. (Still makes me laugh, tho :>)

@terminally_shy @dbat The grumpy ascii art is from neovim's :smile the other one from vim's :smile.

@kirschner

Boosted! Vim FTW!

Thank you, Bram, and to all were part of the vim project.

@kirschner
