The old world is dying, and the new world struggles to be born: now is the time of monsters.

Antonio Gramsci

@tante

at the moment everyone sees one of the monsters clearly: the regressive one, with its xenophobia, sexism etc.

the other part still in the shadows is the corrupted progressive one: scientism and 'rationalist' utilitarianism - what people would maybe have called Futurism in 1920s Italy

@tante Greed monsters indeed.
@tante Reminds me of the line ''the best lack all conviction. The worst are full of passionate intensity'' from WB #Yeats poem The Second Coming, masterfully read and animated in this short YT video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IY2oIsA4c7k
"The Second Coming" by William Butler Yeats

@tante and WB Yeats “turning and turning in the widening gyre, the falcon cannot hear the falconer. Things fall apart, the centre cannot hold… mere anarchy is loosed upon the world … and what rough creature, its hour come round at last, slouches towards Bethlehem to be born.”
@tante For more than 300,000 years, humans lived in anarchy. They dealt with problems by talking with each other and figuring out what to do. Anarchy is our past, our future, and the only way humanity will keep going. The criminal and violent nation-state system must be abandoned. Humans in the past 10-12,000 years have often fled from or torn down early nation-states and gone back to anarchy. Now, we've entrapped most of humanity in the protection racket system we call "civilization," and it is failing horribly.
@tante Gramsci mistranslated by Slavoj Zizek, specifically.
