Planted out our bought "seed garlic" at the #allotment today. It's kinda depressing how little you get for your money with commercial "seed garlic"... this was 4x varieties, 2x heads of each, for £7.10 each pair - so £28.40 spent.

Three of the varieties filled 3 rows of 6, and one of them only 2 rows. So 66 potential garlics for the money... 44p per head.

There are a few left-over smaller cloves which we shall plant elsewhere as backups should any of these not pop up.

@yvan I grab organic garlic at the grocery store. Works great.

@WordenPond we're picky about our garlic varieties, the stuff in the stores in the UK is all pretty pathetic in flavour.

We're gradually building up our own stock and the goal is to be able to grow about 250 head of garlic per season with 10% of them being the next season's seed.

Our favourite variety at the moment is Kingsland Wight for its combination of flavour and bulb size.

@yvan i have German hardnecks in the ground now. 260 more days to go. 4th year into the cycle too.
