I have been covering the war in Ukraine since the very first day in 2014 and I can assess that we are now at the final crossroads. There is a possibility to conclude the war in a positive way, but also a threat for the exact opposite. It is only determined by us and what we do in the coming few weeks and even days.

@Tendar With #northkorea sending troops, now is the time for;

1) 🪖Western troops, airdefence and enforced #noflyzone west of the Dnepr river with the purpose of freeing up Ukrainian troops and airdefence for frontline duties

2) 💶 #NATO countries support #ukraine with min. 1% of GDP per year

3) 🤝 Formal invitation for Ukraine to join NATO as soon as the war is over

4) 🚀 Permission to use western #longrangestrikes at will within conventions

I do not see strong support in the USA for our Congress to declare war against Russia. Do you think that your country would be willing to start drafting soldiers and going to war?
@GreenFire @Tendar
Did North Korea declare war on Ukraine? It is hardly a war declaration if we support Ukraine within the country. Russia will surely see it that way but their world view is mildly twisted. No sane person wants to go war but it was brought on us by Russia and so far Ukraine’s friends have mostly helped with too little too late. I can see Denmark supporting boots on the ground and a noflyzone if NK enters the war. We can not live with the alternative..

@MadsHolmer @Tendar
I cannot speak to how it works in other countries, but since we have divided government in the USA there has to be a consensus in both Congress as well as the White House towards putting American lives at risk in warfare.

That consensus comes about via having a majority of the electorate support military action. Regrettably, this election we've had to deal with so much Kremlin, Tehran, and Beijing disinformation to have put Ukraine at the top as an election issue.

@GreenFire @Tendar
I appreciate the constitutional checks and balances that are fortunately in place in democracies. It must be like that. However, I think it was a mistake to rule out boots on the ground and noflyzone from the beginning and we need to put the topic back on the table or face endless escalation from Russia-China-Iran-NK. If Ukraine falls there will be even bigger trouble waiting —> Baltic countries, Moldova, Taiwan, Israel, South Korea…

@MadsHolmer @Tendar
I get that and if we in the USA had not have been fighting a major disinformation campaign because one of our two major political parties has been captured by the Kremlin I'm confident that we would have done more.

The trouble is that would have probably provided just enough extra to have ensured a Trump victory this year as Biden well knew. If you look into his "excuse" for calling for Liz Cheney to be shot it is about labeling Democrats as warmongers.

@MadsHolmer @Tendar
The best thing Joe Biden and us could do for Ukraine, other than all the aid and weapons along with a broad coalition of allies, was to ensure that Trump and Republicans did not take over our government again which would have resulted in us leaving NATO and other terrible things.
@GreenFire @Tendar
Fingers crossed for you guys Tuesday. The whole world will be watching. I hope for some progressive and firm Russia policies afterwards…
