Oof. The #Wikimedia Foundation’s legal office has blanked the contents and history of a #Wikipedia article about an ongoing defamation lawsuit with an Indian 🇮🇳 news agency. This intervention is extremely rare and probably wouldn’t have happened had the affected country not been the most populous.

In a disturbing update to the ANI vs. #Wikipedia defamation case in #India 🇮🇳, the #Wikimedia Foundation agreed to disclose user details of accounts that have added the defamatory content to the article about ANI, the litigious Indian news agency at the center of the case. What those user details could be there is no info, but I imagine that if these accounts have email addresses attached, then these would be included, as well as any recent IP addresses used.

Here's a further update to this ongoing saga re #Wikipedia defamation case in India 🇮🇳. Volunteers from the English Wikipedia have posted an open letter to the #Wikimedia Foundation requesting that it prioritize the safety of its editors even at the risk of legal liabilities to the WMF.
