It sounds like he believes that there is a fair chance that Trump will win (even with an endorsement for Harris), and he needs to position The Post as independent in order to credibly write about the incoming administration.

@andrewescott And this decision would have been just fine to make in 2021 or 2022. Like I wrote, even earlier this year, it wouldn't have been too controversial. Or announce "no more endorsements" after this election. But there was no way to do it now without sparking justifiable outrage and looking cowardly.

I grew up in Australia in the ‘90s where Murdoch and Packer had the duopoly on Mainstream Media.
If one of the major parties did something that offended Rupe and Kerry, they would loose the next election.
