Imagine if the imminent danger of a fascist movement taking over America led to as much discussion in the journalism craft as the craven decisions by two newspaper owners to preemptively capitulate to the fascist-in-chief...
@dangillmor The former risk is simply too large for many people to contemplate, so instead they focus on smaller, more “relatable” issues.
@dangillmor I remember a time when this insanity would’ve stopped years ago because of media.

We had 100 years of fascist jim crow, and sure it was just the South, not the whole country. But the media didn't do anything to stop it until people like Dr King and Julian Bond at the SCLC found a way to entice the media to start reporting on it.

@RiaResists @dangillmor

@Spicewalla @dangillmor the same ugly undertone, over & over again.
All good people need to raise their voices & halt the madness sanity before it literally takes us over & we lose our voice.

@dangillmor

Now where'd you put your blinders? Can't have you achieving perspective. That won't do.

@dangillmor and what if this is a takeover plan by the PayPal mafia? (they're foreigners, they can't play directly) absurd as it may sound, there's plenty of signals.

It is worse than capitulation, its an alliance that just finally broke the threshold of plausible deniability. Their interests are aligned because when you are a billionaire, democracy feels like oppression.

That alliance is precisely why the discussion hasn't happened either.

WaPo's now ex editor-at-large is saying Bezos already cut a deal and that the day-of meeting between blue origin execs and chump was just a check-in to make sure the alliance was still on track.

@dangillmor

@dangillmor The wealthy owners of those papers aren't capitalizing, they are supporting because money. They don't care about people or America. They only care about hoarding more money.

@dangillmor The rest of the world is looking on in horror at how close this one will be regardless of who wins.

There's a deep cultural sickness over there, that an indicted former President with an I.Q. of 70, the emotional depth of a 9 year-old, and a penchant for unhinged conspiracy theories, not to mention multiple criminal cases pending - including charges related to business fraud, election interference, and mishandling of classified docs - should even be allowed to run for a second term.
