@emarktaylor Historian Rick Perlstein (Nixonland et al) was just on the Know Your Enemy podcast and pointed out that something very much like this did in fact happen during Watergate. There was apparently pressure to note some item of Democratic malfeasance along w/ coverage of the actual crimes.
