Here’s former Washington Post executive editor Marty Baron saying what needs to be said about the Post’s decision not to endorse a Presidential candidate: "This is cowardice, a moment of darkness that will leave democracy as a casualty. … Donald Trump will celebrate this as an invitation to further intimidate The Post’s owner, Jeff Bezos (and other media owners). History will mark a disturbing chapter of spinelessness at an institution famed for courage." https://www.npr.org/2024/10/25/nx-s1-5165353/washington-post-presidential-endorsement-trump-harris
@heidilifeldman ... So I just cancelled my wapo subscription. I'm so over papers owned by billionaires.
@Schlining @heidilifeldman Yesterday I cancelled my LA Times subscription. Now, I have to decide about WaPo. I cancelled NYT years ago, and I’m loathe to have no subscription to any paper with a semblance of national political coverage. I wish the Philadelphia Inquirer had large Congressional and WH reporting teams.
@heidilifeldman I get that. I'll probably start sending money to propublica, guardian and the Atlantic.
@Schlining I am a member at the guardian. I have donated to propublica, but may be time to make it a regular thing.
@heidilifeldman @Schlining I've been quite happy with just NPR since dropping WP & NYT.
"Democracy dies in the darkness" was a threat, not a warning.
@heidilifeldman Just canceled my subscription.
