The fediverse is getting its own TikTok competitor called Loops | TechCrunch

Similar to how Mastodon offers an open source, distributed version of X, the fediverse is getting its own TikTok competitor. This week, an app called

TechCrunch
@techcrunch woah @dansup you made techcrunch!
@techcrunch @dansup thank you @Sarahp, you are doing amazing work highlighting stuff going on here into mainstream news. Really appreciate the time you have been putting into this. Seeing that you mentioned @Liberapay and @opencollective in the article made me quite happy to see.

@techcrunch It’s not really a competition since mastodon is not for profit.

Maybe x, threads have competition. Fediverse has just another player to adapt to.

@nonlinear @techcrunch I think the phrasing of "competition" is so ingrained in how most things online are talked about. I have also found myself talking about things competing when they are really all part of an ecosystem. I agree there are much better framings but its so ingrained in "our" capitalist structure to talk like this

@liaizon @techcrunch Yeah we lack vocabulary for symbiosis, everything is all about dominance. Both in western science and also market economy.

Makes sense, since it’s a bunch of planetary colonizers and enslavers setting the standards.

@nonlinear @liaizon I don’t think we lack the manage language as much we lack any real skill in journalism now.

@wiredfire @liaizon We lack language because journalistic institutions were co-opted.

I don’t think we should wait for journalism to shape the language. It’s up to us.

And in a sense we do, building our own structures,
Ike mastodon.

@techcrunch Hey @jerry, seen this yet?
@Xavier indeed. I have been following @dansup’s progress on it and I’m pretty excited about where it will go.
