#ThamesWater hopes to secure Β£3billion from creditors to keep it going until 2026

In return, Thames water wants to charge customers 53% more over the next 5 years

But #ofwat are saying 23% πŸ™„

A decision will be made this December

I wonder who will win

#deadparrotsketch

#NationaliseIt

@Geri we're going to get screwed over and Starmer will be all dismissive of us like he was with the Commonwealth, it's how it's going to be until they lose the next election.

@Lazarou When the War-damaged railways were nationalised, in 1948, the government issued bonds to pay for the shares based on their price in November 1946

We should do the same for #ThamesWater now before it receives this extra 3 billion and its shares rally.

@Geri a common sense a fair idea that will be dismissed as 'extreme'

@Lazarou As part and parcel of Thatcher's 1989 Water Act, wherewith it was privatised, she decided, to make the flotation viable, that she would write off Β£7.6 bill of debts owed by the water and sewerage companies, providing a 'green dowry' which added Β£2.3 bill to various companies balance sheets, and a capital tax allowance of Β£12 bill to offset the fact that they had had no time to build up capital reserves

And it was our money!

So why do we have to pay twice to take it back

#ThamesWater

@Geri
Speaking from a nationalised country water wise- nationalise it.
@Geri
how about - Water Cos can't gouge customers and they admit their business model is untenable, thereby going into receivership, with the shareholders being legally reposnsible for any outstanding debts. They, the shareholders, have, after all, been earning on the deteriorating service for decades. Time to pay back the money they were loaned by the tax payers. Meanwhile the infrastructure is renationalised from day one, under a legally seperate name, allowing people access to clean water.
@Theriac well yes but their is no legal foundation to your proposal xx
@Geri
there was no legal foundation for the current one until Thatcher.
@Theriac sadly, the water act of 1989 secured its legality xx
@Geri
But a future water act can undo it. We just need to lessen the grip of the Freidmanites
@Geri not my waterboard. Perhaps people should refuse to accept the increase cos gov and WC are taking the piss now and dumping the costs on us after helping themselves.

@jna it's a closed monopoly

None of us can go elsewhere to get a better deal xxx

@Geri there is a sort of power in that. If we remove our Dosh they have no money. I've just got to persuade my partner!
@jna is he or she the one who pays the bills?
@Geri he thinks mastodon is the dark web and I'm lost!
@jna it is and we are xx
@Geri 🀣of course it isn't! We are just sharing ideas!
@Geri πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘and that's important, my friend.

@jna we humans are good at talking better than thinking often

(Present company excused) xx
