reminder that there are good Pb-free solders (e.g. Sn99-Ag0.3-Cu0.7 with 2% RMA) that are just as fit for purpose as Pb60-Sn40, and you can switch to Pb-free without compromising how your joints flow

i used to be a PbSn die-hard but this particular alloy is just... fine? i don't have anything to complain about

@whitequark Do they develop tin whiskers long-term or have we as a species solved that problem yet?
@CauseOfBSOD tin whiskers are largely a solved problem afaik

@whitequark @CauseOfBSOD I am constantly flighting a losing battle against SnPb solder at a satellite manufacturing company. The fear of tin whiskers is too strong, and there doesn’t seem to be enough compelling data to convince people.

I would love to stop reballing BGAs with SnPb and switch to Pb-free solder entirely. Most of the boards we build stay on Earth. Can we please stop polluting the world my son has to grow up in?
