Posting this strictly for anyone else here also trying to use social media for only for personal stuff, but business too: Bluesky is kind of blowing up since yesterday, and it's worth at least trying to establish a presence there.

(I'm well aware of Bluesky’s shortcomings compared to Mastodon and am not trying to advertise it. Just posting because if I didn't know about this right now, I would want to know, and there are plenty of people in the same situation as me.)

@jonikorpi I'm kind of ready to dump Mastodon for Bluesky, honestly. To me this (federation, lack of data migration) always felt like a compromise, like a throwback to php forums but just Ruby and eyecandy.

@staltz It’s tough. I wish keeping up with multiple networks was easier, but it isn’t. Both have glaring issues of very different kinds, and it’s impossible to guess if and how they will be resolved.

I wish our social media presences were just our websites. I thought Mastodon would enable that, but a heavy multiuser Rails app is not the right tool. :/

@jonikorpi "keeping up with different networks" this is literally a side effect of decentralization, which in other words means that the social web is currently decentralized. Decentralization won!
