Nice parallel with a subplot where someone leaves dead rabbits in their doorstep, and they take it as a threat.
“#ThePradeeps” is an elite-immigrant comedy like “Coming to America.” Mom’s a surgeon, dad won a #SpaceX manufacturing contract and moved everyone over to Amrika.
They feud with their neighbors, who are white-trash stereotypes despite a nice house: hunting, Bible thumpers, cousin deals Oxy.
Great lead cast, based on creator’s life. Unfortunately weak writing, especially watched back-to-back with “Lady Parts.”
Brown leads are great. Little budget left over for the white foils except Pete Holmes, who’s always funny.
Whole thing is from the Indian family’s POV, especially the intelligent, dominant mom. Vee’s charisma carries the show. Andrews plays a mildly helpless foil. Srinivasan is good. Child actors are child actors.
All the white characters save Holmes feel like cardboard, played by extras. Partly on purpose, from the immigrant POV.
Centering the brown folks is such a relief after decades of crude Azaria / Fisher Stevens trash. Just wish they had better foils and better writers. Let the creator write the plots, bring in someone to polish.
