@JoshuaHolland 🤔 how are drug sniffing police dogs interacting with mail even legal?
The drugs aren't federally illegal so it'd have to be state police, but my understanding was that state people aren't allowed to touch / interact with mail unless there's a clear and present danger.
not that they actually give a shit about "legal" or "right" when it comes to women or LGBTQ+ folks...
@masukomi @JoshuaHolland
I think how it works is you have no rights if you are within 100 miles of an international border.
@masukomi @JoshuaHolland
It seems like Border patrol is not the most pressing threat to people mailing abortion medications.
"Annually, the post office photographs every one of the billions of pieces of mail that it processes."
These activists should follow some of the security protocols that darknet market drug dealers use. They don't need to use vacuum sealed foil packaging (dog aren't trained to find these medications);

@masukomi @JoshuaHolland
But they should:
* vary the packaging, return addresses, and location the mail is dropped at.
* conceal the pills from tactile discovery through the packaging.
* walk to the drop location in a mask, without a phone. (Video surveillance of faces and number plates is a threat, as are cell tower records).
This is not an exhaustive list of opsec considerations. Think carefully about the consequences of breaking laws to provide potentially life saving help to others.

I think, after reading the article, it's that they see the envelope, claim the dog signalled that it has heroin or something that is federally illegal, because they know what the abortion drug mail looks like, and then demand it be opened.
Then, shockingly, it has drugs that at state illegal, that were found in investigation (probable cause) when they thought it was cocaine.
So...
@LPerry2 @Nonya_Bidniss @JoshuaHolland
^^This. And also, when the transition occurs, the rhetoric will shift to, "oh no, who could have seen THAT coming??"
@acsawdey Yep. And a factory packaging line is not going to leave the traces that tend to happen in the course of recreational pharmaceutical specialists' handcraft.
Plus, even if a dog could smell the progestins inside the blister packaging and the capsule, it would smell not only very different from the sort of recreational substances police dogs are trained with, but also similar to certain aspects of a pregnant dog's smell.
@riley @amro @JoshuaHolland I feel like this is a little out in left field. These people are capable of planning, but not very good at operational security. And all it takes is someone to notice what the dogs are being trained to detect and go "wait, sniffing for WHAT?" Also, who is going to be doing this? The USPS? DEA? (don't they have better things to do?)
I hope it's just a wild rumor.
Possibly some sort of cynologic support office of Florida police. Possibly some bunch of charlatans offering cops fake drug-sniffing dogs. Wouldn't be the first time. Remember the Quadro Tracker / ADE 651 / Sniffex scandal?
@JoshuaHolland I saw the San Francisco Opera's production of The Handmaids Tale last month, and it seemed to be way to close to home given our current political situation.
It is not often that you get to see an opera that scary. And this one was sandwiched in between an opera where a king is assassinated and an opera where a love-potion induced tryst results in quite a number of people dying.
@JoshuaHolland YOu know what? He's right. We're not a few steps from The Handmaids Tale.
We're living it right now.
@JoshuaHolland
Snitches reporting people mailing pills so postal inspectors bring up drug sniffing dogs is disgusting. Countermeasure is to prepare all envelopes remotely, keep the weight under the limit for public mailboxes, and do not use a car to approach the mailbox so no tag number can be recorded by some store's "security" camera.
The use of war on drugs tactics against abortion pills should be considered justification for any and all countermeasures we have to resort to.
That can include harassment of politically active antiabortion churches, doxxing prosecutors who file charges over abortion, whatever it takes and without restriction.
Yes, I supported Jane's Revenge during their guerilla campaign. If abortion isn't safe, neither are Christian nationalists and the fake clinics they run.
