I hope everyone is paying attention to United States v. Skrmetti. It's a case being heard this term about Tennessee’s gender affirming care ban.

In one of the amicus briefs filed last week opposing gender affirming care for trans kids there was just a list of bible verses.

The brief was filed by 23 state legislatures and some other jamokes.

The separation of church and state? Never heard of her. #transrights #Scotus #uspol https://www.supremecourt.gov/DocketPDF/23/23-477/327815/20241009120525823_State%20Leg%20AFA%20AFAA%20amicus%20brief.pdf

This is a good TikTok produced by Rewire News Group's content creator about that bonkers Skrmetti brief. It's worth a watch! https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMhfrEAfK/

@AngryBlackLady every time I see this case name my brain says "United States vs. Skrillex".
@AngryBlackLady It's missing "Holy Bible Ezekiel 23"

@AngryBlackLady

Wow. If the court doesn't toss that, then they are corrupt.

And it's not even clear which version of the Bible they're talking about. Is it KJV, ESV, RSV, NIV, NLT, or perhaps the NWT, or something else like the Trump Bible? You have to cite your sources correctly!

@Ehay2k @AngryBlackLady

So far as we know on Page 2 they reference:

Be not mogued; Gloria is not mocked: for whatsoever a homie soweth, that shall she also reap.
— Galatians 6:7

@AngryBlackLady As they say who put religion on my government?
Scary, “In one of the amicus briefs filed last week opposing gender affirming care for trans kids there was just a list of bible verses.”

A list of Bible verses!? JHC. They can’t wait to believe they have taken action against all things trans. Pompous buffoons. And I include Coney Barrett as one.

@AngryBlackLady I was once told I can't quote Wikipedia as as source ... but Bible is okey somehow? Interessting 😬
@AngryBlackLady "jamokes" is such a good term.

@AngryBlackLady Looks like I just found my next Bible study topic.

Genesis 1:27; Galatians 6:7; Matthew 22:37-40; Philippians 2:3-4; John 14:15; Genesis 3:5; Genesis 4:6-7; Proverbs 22:15; Galatians 5:19-24; Romans 13:1-5.

Anyone else notice these aren't in order? I'm thinking the order matters to their argument.

I'm gonna enjoy tearing this apart.

@ned @AngryBlackLady

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

Seems to me at least the first three are a pretty boring stab at ‘God didn't mention non-binary/trans, and God is in charge, so there’

Kinda ironic they wound up quoting ‘love thy neighbour as thyself’ in the process, they seem somewhat less interested in that of course

@AngryBlackLady

the refrain I've seen on a lot of the churches affiliated with these kinds of law firms is that separation of church and state is about "the state keeping out of church business" so there's an active effort to twist it

@AngryBlackLady My pharmacist is a Christian and he fills my T prescription just fine.

These people can fuck all the way off.

What is this middle-school drivel?

Para 3:
"Central to that mission and vision are these
principles: God created every human being, male and
female, as free and morally responsible bearers of his
image. We all want to make our own rules and
struggle to follow God's commands to love him and one
another, especially when we are children. Yet with the
help of the Holy Spirit,2 we can grow in faith and maturity and gain the self-control to live with greater
obedience to divine law"

@AngryBlackLady

@AngryBlackLady

not sure how many americans feel this way, but i do not give one fuck what they bible says about anything lol

separation of church and state

@AngryBlackLady I live in Tennessee. It was a normal place when I moved here 20 years ago. Now I hate it.
@Jennifer @AngryBlackLady Alabama (Birmingham area anyway) feels similar to how it was when we lived here in the 90s, but the incompetence and laziness of our elected officials is probably more responsible for that than anything else.
@AngryBlackLady The Bible was written some 2,000 years ago by men who didn't know where the sun goes at night. And I'm supposed to take it seriously?
@AngryBlackLady If we’re going Old Testament, I would like to know how many of these guys shave, wear cotton-poly blends, or eat at Red Lobster…

@AngryBlackLady and Mia Hughes is an anti transgender extremist whil eRussell Kirk is just some 'conservative' guy.

literally no experts, whatsoever, just propaganda & drivel

@AngryBlackLady Every trans person in America is terrified right now, and the fact that SCOTUS is even entertaining this case is just one of the many reasons why. Children’s healthcare is only the entry point, not the end goal — if they succeed they’re coming after us adults next, followed by the LGBTQ+ community at large. Every single thing they’re doing WRT trans people is designed to erase us from society.

@AngryBlackLady
Speaking of the Bible and Galatians:

"The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love." (Galatians 5:6 NIV)

"Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers." (Galatians 6:10 NIV)

What these daemonic politicians don't know is that we are taught to love and care for each other, and that also includes gender-affirming healthcare. It's literally in the Bible!
