mardub 🇫🇷🇸🇪Any #IT support in #Uppsala? found a laptop #hp #probook x360 11 g5 ee in the sopstuga. Hardware works, windows starts very slowly to the session of some young woman who lives nearby... We want to boot it on a linux usb but it refuses to do so. I try to access the #bios but it is password protected even removing all batteries does not reset password. What would you do about it? I wonder as well if i could /should contact my neighbour who throwed it to ask, but i am scared to freak her out. It seems to be a laptop that used to be from a her school in #uppsala but I have no idea which one the only clue is a message to connect to " SKOLNET " #skolnet #nvram
Today is a big day! We managed to fix the hp probook x360 11 g5 ee. It was a pain in the *** to do it though. We had to find the bios chip buy a eep rom programmer spi flash programmer (the weird usb device) to dump erase and rewrite the bios . To use some soldering to connect some strings as well. At the end we had to use rcunlocker as explained on this website https://www.badcaps.net/forum/troubleshooting-hardware-devices-and-electronics-theory/troubleshooting-laptops-tablets-and-mobile-devices/bios-requests-only/87349-rcunlocker as well as IMGProg . #IMGProg #probook x360 11 g5 ee #rcunlocker . We now can remove the old windows put decent linux. This computer got "saved" but how many computer got just thrown away like this one because of those silly password and awful procedures to get factory reset?
