Looks like the trees are being taken down on Neville Street, #Cardiff.

Two of our biggest urban challenges are excess heat, and management of water.

Trees - particularly mature trees - are a vital asset in keeping our urban areas liveable (and possibly glorious!) https://clubb.cymru/2023/08/14/preparing-for-50-degree-towns-and-cities/

I wonder what the strategy is with mature tree removal in #Caerdydd 🤔

*Edit at 1641h on 9 Oct. The reason for the removal is given as subsidence that damages nearby houses*

Preparing for 50 degrees in Wales – David Clubb

@davidoclubb @wales I've often suspected it's to do with the cost of highways having to pick up the leaves to keep the water off the surface. And because they planted shallow rooted trees on compacted soil, the roots lift the pavement. The benefits are never estimated or added to the accounts. Another example of the disaster of Activity Based Costing being applied to public services. Part of the Thatcherite revolution in local government, which no government has sought to abolish.
@davidoclubb @wales unfortunately we had to cut down our large tree recently - disease had rendered it unsafe.
@richardnosworthy mae'n digwydd! Roeddwn i eitha grac am y coed ar stryd Neville tan darllen y rheswm.
