Kids these days are surprisingly good at stop motion animation. My 9 year old also made me install an app called Stop Motion. So far we've got one of a train circling around his wooden railway. He wants to do lego stop motion, because he sees a lot of that online.
@mcv @tefferbear I'll check that app out!
I loved stop motion animation when I was a kid, but it was a LOT harder back in the days of film photography.
The app makes it really easy. You make the photos, and it turns it into a movie for you. All you need is a stable place to put the smartphone and something to film.
My son made his smartphone stand from lego. Works very well.
These are wonderful!
So cool. I wish I had the patience to do stop motion
@tefferbear let her know about the StuffIt international student film festival!!
@tefferbear
That's really well done and quite charming!
If she ever gets interested in animating objects (rather than play dough) she may get some inspiration from (everyone's favourite late 20th century Czech surrealist stop-motion animator) Jan Svankmajer.
This short of the Lewis Carrol poem "Jabberwocky" is a good example, and relatively age appropriate.

He also did an interesting full-length adaptation of another Lewis Carrol story "Alice", starring Kristýna Kohoutová - an actor with a Kevin Bacon number of infinity.
@tefferbear There's a flashing neon sign in my head that says Laika Studios.
When she's older, finances permitting, she may want to consider the Emily Carr University of Art + Design here in Vancouver, or Sheridan College in Brampton, ON. I can guarantee they'd let her in if these were in her portfolio.
Or, if it turns out there's something else she's interested in studying, or doesn't want to study at all, stop-motion can be something she does just for enjoyment. ☺️
