Extremely obsessed with the stop motion videos my ten year old has been making. This one is called “my home”
Many thanks to everyone who has been liking, sharing and commenting!! You’ve given a ten year old artist a lot of encouragement and joy!
@tefferbear this is really cool! Pass my congratulations to the artist!
@brunogirin i will! She downplays her takent a lot so external validation helps ;)
@tefferbear ok so here's extended positive feedback:
- the story is simple and clear, there's a beginning, middle and end
- the image focus is great, on the key elements
- she uses the whole width of the screen well, including off screen action
- I like the crawling movement when it comes back with the lid
@brunogirin @tefferbear 💯 to this. And I love the gentleness and care with which the playdoh treats its home, as well as with which the home treats its playdoh.
@tefferbear this is MAGNIFICENT
@tefferbear I really like the bit where the lid gets correctly oriented
@tefferbear well done! love the clay like behaviour of the clay 👏
@tefferbear fantastic work! Please let them know the internet approves.
@tefferbear Reminds me of "bumper" stopmotions and other "low-framerate" works :) Very nice :)
@tefferbear what an artist, future film director
@tefferbear ...your kid has a very, VERY promising future ahead of them in animation. I wanna see more :O I am INVESTED in this story and this is only a few seconds long!
@tefferbear awesome! I did it with 8mm movie film back in the day!
@tefferbear how did your kid learn how to do this? I have a 9-year-old and I think he'd be really interested in trying it out.
@kzeta she uses an app on her tablet, whatever free one i found from searching; apart from that it’s been trial and error! She did have a week long animation camp this summer but I don’t think they did much stop motion.
@tefferbear Thank you! We might be trying this out in our house soon 😁

@kzeta @tefferbear

Kids these days are surprisingly good at stop motion animation. My 9 year old also made me install an app called Stop Motion. So far we've got one of a train circling around his wooden railway. He wants to do lego stop motion, because he sees a lot of that online.

@mcv @tefferbear I'll check that app out!

I loved stop motion animation when I was a kid, but it was a LOT harder back in the days of film photography.

@kzeta @tefferbear

The app makes it really easy. You make the photos, and it turns it into a movie for you. All you need is a stable place to put the smartphone and something to film.

My son made his smartphone stand from lego. Works very well.

@tefferbear Get them into art school or drama school right now! Just sayin'!

@tefferbear

So cool. I wish I had the patience to do stop motion

@tefferbear Got to love the play dough that puts itself away. Well done young film maker. 👏🎬😍
@tefferbear This is totally amazing, particularly from a 10 yr old! It takes such patience and focus to do it at all, and then to do it so well!
@tefferbear
This is brilliant! Please tell your ten year old I loved “my home”.
@tefferbear
That's a really talented 10yo you have there. Really awesome!
@tefferbear This kicks ass. They're awesome and you win parenting.

@tefferbear let her know about the StuffIt international student film festival!!

@tefferbear
That's really well done and quite charming!

If she ever gets interested in animating objects (rather than play dough) she may get some inspiration from (everyone's favourite late 20th century Czech surrealist stop-motion animator) Jan Svankmajer.

This short of the Lewis Carrol poem "Jabberwocky" is a good example, and relatively age appropriate.

He also did an interesting full-length adaptation of another Lewis Carrol story "Alice", starring Kristýna Kohoutová - an actor with a Kevin Bacon number of infinity.

@tefferbear There's a flashing neon sign in my head that says Laika Studios.

When she's older, finances permitting, she may want to consider the Emily Carr University of Art + Design here in Vancouver, or Sheridan College in Brampton, ON. I can guarantee they'd let her in if these were in her portfolio.

Or, if it turns out there's something else she's interested in studying, or doesn't want to study at all, stop-motion can be something she does just for enjoyment. ☺️

@NemesisTheFox right now she wants to be a deep sea marine biologist, but art school would make her mama very happy ;)
@tefferbear this is lovely, please tell them I really enjoyed this! 😍
@tefferbear @rhamphorhynchus i love this! Keep sharing please 🤩
