in 1987 Donald Trump returned from Moscow, took out full page ads in three major papers against NATO, and formed an exploratory committee for president.

I think about that a lot

Analysis | Trump’s NATO isolationism is at least 30 years old

In 1987, he made the case for cutting down on foreign spending.

Donald Trump is a Russian Asshat

@dannotdaniel What in the world?

His record in office debunk conspiracy theories like that.

@volkris @dannotdaniel what effin' record? he sucked up to putin the entire time.

@tshirtman from blocked pipelines to strengthening relationships with other countries to take them farther from the Russian sphere of influence, this story that Trump sucked up to Putin the whole time is just a myth.

If you want to put it a different way, Trump's too damn stupid to even know how to have a consistent policy that would benefit Russia anyway.

But he certainly did not spend the whole presidency sucking up to Putin like so many claimed.

@dannotdaniel

@volkris @dannotdaniel which country got further from Russia? China? North Korea? Iran? He might have though he had some kind of friendship with Xi, and Ki (but certainly not with Khamenei), these are absolutely helping Russia against Ukraine (the main reason China is shy about it, is that it doesn’t want to lose business with the west, others don’t have that problem). So, which country? Or do you really believe it was the case for these.

Trump is not smart, yes, but Putin can easily lead him.

@tshirtman @volkris I recommend not engaging with this obvious troll which I will be blocking now

@volkris @tshirtman nope

not buying this for a second

you're just spouting kremlin propaganda

@volkris haha go away troll
@dannotdaniel @[email protected] I blocked them two weeks ago! Definitely a Troll!

@otownKim @dannotdaniel

Yup. The latent Hipster in me still enjoys "Oh, that account? Blocked 'em months ago" 😆

@dannotdaniel Once and ever. Useful idiot who knows exactly what and why he’s doing [it].

@severud I'm not sure if that makes him "more than" a "useful idiot" but he certainly is that, too

all the bad things

I still feel like this little factoid should be trotted out by someone on the campaign regularly
What If Trump Has Been a Russian Asset Since 1987?

When Trump has his summit with Putin, will he be meeting with his counterpart — or his handler? A plausible theory of mind-boggling collusion.

Intelligencer
@dannotdaniel ya gotta hand it to the west. The USSR dissolved Warsaw alliance, but we never got rid of NATO and instead drove it right up to the doorstep of Russia.

@dannotdaniel @spaceghoti Some background to this toot about #Trump anti-NATO view.
