If Trump is reelected, Justice Alito may retire. Justice Thomas too.

Trump would then be the first president in more than 50 years to appoint a majority of the Supreme Court.

And not just a "conservative" majority — but a MAGA majority.

SCOTUS is on the ballot this November.

@rbreich
If Republicans win the Senate, even if Harris wins, they will hold open any seats until a Republican president.

This election, the #SCOTUS is on the ballot - and only a #BlueTrifecta will allow change.

#VoteBlueAllDownTheTicket

@TCatInReality @rbreich If the Democrats still control the Senate, we need to abolish the filibuster to expand SCOTUS to 13 and neutralize Roberts.
@TCatInReality @rbreich #Harris said she is open to ending filibuster and expanding SCOTUS. So, let’s make sure we maintain control of the Senate.
@normalguy @TCatInReality @rbreich
There already is a bill to expand the courts to 16 districts with the justice number tied to the number of districts.
@Ralph058 @TCatInReality @rbreich It’s all the more reason to maintain control of the Senate.

@TCatInReality @rbreich to which I say: voting blue no matter who is an exploitable flaw by republicans to change parties to (d) while being in line with maga.

Don’t just vote because they are blue: vote for the truest blue you can find - which is a lot more work.

Rated choice allows us to vote for progressives without conceding to the spoiler effect giving republicans votes.

We need a true leftist movement: now!

@altruios @rbreich
Ranked choice is great, but more work needs to be done to make it more widespread.

In the interim, vote for the true blue in the primaries. Once the candidate is set, vote Dem.

@TCatInReality @rbreich I said rated, not ranked. Ranked is better: but rated is best: easiest to implement, hardest to game.

@altruios @rbreich
OK. But rated or ranked, they are still rarely used processes in current elections.

Until then, my point about primaries and general elections remains.

@TCatInReality @rbreich no: the problem is that perception is widely shared which is defeatism: things are they way they are and can never change. Start actively fighting for the better system now. Otherwise you are saying that status quo is acceptable, which it is not. Be part of the solution: not part of the problem (implying we should just wait around and hope)
Start voice advocacy, instead of dismissal. Be the voice of hope. Don’t be a voice of defeatism!
Rated choice is best choice

@altruios @rbreich
You're putting words in my mouth.

Sure, advocate for change. I would much prefer ranked or rated systems.

But at any given election, the rules are set and you need to maximize the outcome under those rules. For the US 2024 election, they are set.

Don't confuse the two (current vs future systems) and don't undermine/distract from the importance of defeating fascism by voting #BlueAllDownTheBallot

Getting a #BlueTrifecta is your best route to the systemic change you seek

@TCatInReality @rbreich are any of the blue candidates advocating for that voting system change? Vote for THAT person.

Start calling the blue hopeful’s campaigns: tell them that’s the most important issue. (Or email). Call your representative: tell them that’s the most important thing.

This year: coordinate with the non-profits pushing rated choice.

I don’t mean to put words in your mouth: I’m tired of hearing “now’s not the time” in its various forms. NOW IS the time!

@altruios @rbreich

*NOW* is the time for vote for #Harris and #VoteBlueAllDownTheTicket to stop the fascists.

By all means, call your Dem candidates and demand rated or ranked voting, if you want.

@TCatInReality @rbreich rated choice is just ranked choice: but non exclusive optional ratings for each candidate…

What that means is: no “rounds of elimination” just straight counting of star ratings. Nothing extra to do but count votes. So no elimination round games can be played.
