In 2023, me and a friend have started something called heaven games. This had it's ups and downs, including that our first project was quite clonish, though very unique and brought us a lot of fun. We were by no means perfect, and we still arn't. But we were creative. We had several projects going on after our first one, lots of code transformation etc, but we ended up putting an end to our development team. It never worked out for one or another reason. Curious about more of the history of heaven games? Then I incurrage you to read an older post of mine, because I would like to directly get to the point of my message.
Today in the morning, I started the work on something I wanted to do for a long time, soundpacks. Now, since I didn't need to design sounds for any project of ours, I got started on creating packs for games in order to hopefully drastically improve the audio experience of audio games(pun atended). My first one will be jumpsprint by tunmi13.
You may ask why I'm doing this. Is it because I've got to much time on my hands, because I'm simply bored? Honest answer? No. I do it to elevate my and one day others experience. So that even very simple games, runners, sidescrollers, all the oldskool shit we're supposed to play has a brand new polished skin.
The thing we're lacking is creativity. We have so many blindies having all the time in the world, knowing code. But we're not using our abilities correctly. We don't need to be able to be awesome coders, the best sound designers around, I'll never be. It's to put our heart into our work. Not because we get pushed, rather because we want to provide fun for people, included ourself!
We have new resources. Nvgt. Python coders too. Sound designers. Hundrids of libraries. However, the more we got, the less we used them! We're stuck with the same game types, game master and sfx sound libraries, and that for nearly the same sounds over and over again, etc.
Many years ago, when we didn't have much, we have already seen survive the wild come alive, the road to rage, and many other great titles that we had to say good bye to, stw anyway. Why don't we use our abilities and make something much more outstanding than before? Even if it's just a nice soundpack for a game, a simple extra detail, anything. It can contribute greatly. But more so, if people together create a brand new project. It's not about stress, rather having fun together.
I know the simple way is just to let this comunity shut down and wait for sighted people's murcy to write video game mods. But why don't we elevate audio games to a new level? Why can't we make them worthy playing again, with so many more resources than before?
I remember being a young teen. years ago. Games were different and more special still. I had a lot of fun. And I want to give other people back the same feeling, even though I lost it.
ps: Would love to have another go with devving with someone willing.
Pls spread this!

@McOi I think we might be in the middle of a transitional phase of sorts at the moment. The drama of the last decade or so did a lot to effectively kill off most of the big name devs, people like me were riding that wave up to a point both with clones and with newer projects, but we were very much stuck in the mindset of what came before. The problem we have now is that most of the big audiogame related ideas have pretty much been done to death. You've got sidescrollers, you've got 2D and 3D platforms, you don't realy have online stuff just now but it's hard to do online stuff right now because of all of the bagage, and whilst it's always possible to perform more and more variations on the same theme, it's hard to be really excited or motivated about it, so that's why very little is happening at the moment. I've toyed with the idea of getting back into audiogame dev for years, but I keep on coming back to the question of well what would I do? And I can't think of anything that wouldn't be yet another rehash. And as you say, sounds. Most of us get them from the same places, and free sounds can vary pretty wildly in terms of quality, so again the question is, why? Why put a hole bunch of effort into sound design and potentially voice acting if it probably won't even pay off in the long run? Just think of A Hero's Call, Psycho Strike, The Gate, ETC. In terms of long term viability, it's hard to describe any of those as success stories. NVGT could reverse the tide here to a large extent, but it all depends on the enthusiasm of the comunity and willingness to embrace it on mass like we did with BGT, and I just don't think we're at anything like the same place now. It could stil happen, but until or unless it does, we're pretty much stuck in badly managed decline.
@arqeria Yeah, true points. But again there's so much more. We had rpg's, fps's, sidescrollers and runners. Ok. But what about something like, stw but more wild like, maybe even offline?
Or a menu based game though it would have good sound design? I was thinking about an improved version of galactic colonies, an iOS and Android game about space colonization with some quite big flaws and bugs, sadly somewhat discontinued for a long while.
Then we still don't have something like a fishing simulator where you fish, earn money, get new boats etc.
Heh, maybe an undead apocalypse I tried to start with heaven games long ago.
I also liked the concept idea of humans vs robots, though I didn't play it. But it sounded interesting.
Or just anything simple that keeps you bound to it to play on your phone now that nvgt is at it. Idk there's so much that could be devved if you think about it though. Again, I can't code because I'm just not in the mood and style for so much theory and pacience, so I'm depended on someone who'd be willing to do something.
