🎃 Burd's #31NightsOfHorror 🎃

My goal is to post along all month about what I'll be watching this October. Feel free to follow along OR mute the 31 Nights hash (I will only be using that during the month after this post.)

It's that spooky season again folks!!! Let's go down the creepy rabbit hole.

Burd's #31NightsOfHorror 2024

At this point, the 9th(?) year of Burd's 31 Nights of Horror. (I'm legitimatly losing track at this point) Dang. A little more traditional. I'm not trying to overload this year. What does 2024 entail beyond the usual nightly horror movie watch and slew of BOO-nus 👻 entries? 1. Five Nights of hosting Fright in the Brites in the brewery 2. Weekly Monday Night Discord Streams 3. The return of the Music Box Theatre's Music Box Of Horrors 24h Marathon (WITH newly renovated seats!) 4. A getaway weekend/bit over twenty years in the making As usual this this will update…

Woke up to a chill in the air and a nervous energy all about.

Burd's #31NightsOfHorror is going to be an interesting one this year.

The real question is:

Just how many BOO-nus watches am I going to tack on this time? 👻

Kicking off Burd's #31NightsOfHorror with one of the first movies that I ever added to my Letterboxd Watchlist. Added it and never actually got to it. UNTIL NOW.

Night 1:
Magic (1978)

Two of the most terrifying things ever, a ventriloquist dummy and Anthony Hopkins.

This is terrifying and, no surprise, Anthony Hopkins can fucking act.

Burd's #31NightsOfHorror

Ok, Magic (1978) is a fantastic, tense little movie.

But hey. Why not add a BOO-nus 👻 Watch on this, the first night of Burd's #31NightsOfHorror?

Let's keep the creepy doll theme going with Child's Play bandwagon film:

Dolly Dearest (1991)

Dolly Dearest is a strange artifact of early 90s horror but gosh if I don't still love it.

I've found the steam for one more tonight. A classic to really ease me into the spooky season.

Our next BOO-nus 👻 Watch on this inaugural kick off to Burd's #31NightsOfHorror 2024:

House on Haunted Hill (1959)

I can't not think of this every time I watch House on Haunted Hill.

Burd's #31NightsOfHorror

So last night's 2n BOO-nus 👻 Watch was a nice lead in to tonight's first movie pick for Burd's #31NightsOfHorror.

This will be a First Time watch, although I've read the book and seen other adaptations.

The Haunting (1963)

Tonight's second film requires Burd's #31NightsOfHorror to go on a little field trip to The Music Box Theatre for a 35mm showing of Noroi: The Curse (2005).

To the public transportation mobile!

Gods do I love Noroi. The 35mm print The Music Box showed was amazing. Apparently, Noroi has only been shown theatrically in North America 4 times including tonight.

This was also the first time this particular print has been shown in North America.

Great crowd for it. Burd's #31NightsOfHorror is taking off to a fantastic start.

Night 3 of Burd's #31NightsOfHorror is the return of 🍻Fright in the Brites🍻!

Every Thursday this month I've programmed a horror film to screen in the brewery where I work among the imposing stainless steel tanks.

This week's film is the Brazilian horror classic, At Midnight I'll Take Your Soul (1964)

Tonight's Fright in the Brites was a pretty good success.

Time for a Burd's #31NightsOfHorror BOO-nus 👻 Watch though. Noroi had me champing at the bit to revisit this truly undersung little J Horror.

I won't say it's gonna knock your socks off, but it is so successfully scary in a way that I just haven't seen much elsewhere.

Kidan: Piece of Darkness (2016) deserves infinitely more love.

Crossing a big one off the list tonight for Burd's #31NightsOfHorror.

First time watch. Loaded cast.

It's The Sentinel (1977)

The Sentinel was everything I hoped it'd be.

But I immediately had a hankering for it's predecessor and had to dig up a copy I could watch.

I remember when I wrote in the description of my list for Burd's #31NightsOfHorror this year: "I'm not *trying* to overload this year"

But, fuck it, I'm already 8 movies deep only 4 days in. Why not 9.

Anyhoo it's a BOO-nus 👻 Watch!

It's The Seventh Victim (1943), babie!

It's Saturday but I still have to go in to work today for a bit. Sadly can't cram the whole day full of Horror films for Burd's #31NightsOfHorror but I do have a triple feature scheduled for tonight because, of course I do.

For Night 5, a little bit of everything:
Stepfather 2 (1989)
Longlegs (2024)
Frozen (2010)

Finally done with work for the day and waiting on a pizza.

A little yearly traditional BOO-nus 👻 Watch in the mean time.

Gilda Radner starring in the wonderful Halloween Special, Witch's Night Out (1978).

Is it really Burd's #31NightsOfHorror if I don't watch this????

The original film is one of the earliest entries I ever did in one of my earlier Burd's #31NightsOfHorror.

Stoked for the sequel.
It's Stepfather II (1989)

So The Stepfather and Stepfather 2 absolutely are going on my Letterboxd Horror Duology list.

But now carrying on Burd's #31NightsOfHorror with something ultra recent. Nic Cage does a horror movie all over again in:

Longlegs (2024)

Longlegs is pretty good. I may not be as enamored with it as some but I enjoyed myself nonetheless.

I originally had Frozen (2010) up next but I'm pulling a famous Burd's #31NightsOfHorror audible and making a substitution.

Really was in the mood for something classic so...

It's The Lost Boys (1987)

A little daytime BOO-nus 👻 Watch for Burd's #31NightsOfHorror with the weekly Evolution of Horror Podcast's Discord Watch-a-long.

Today is Roar (1982)

How on earth does something like Roar come into existence???

Well tonight for Burd's #31NightsOfHorror is going to see some changes due to in availability.

So multiple audibles. Needed something to put on while I think about what to do else and I thought of one of my new all time favorites.

Purana Mandir (1984)

My previous review of Purana Mandir on Letterboxd sums up just about everything I can say about it.

https://boxd.it/4b1e0x

A review of Purana Mandir (1984)

Love | Like | Indifferent | Dislike Samri has a great introduction. He is a little goofy but when they are reading off the list of demonic crimes, his demeanor, while in chains, is kinda like "yeah...what of it?". The club is dope. I'd want to hang out there. Great song too. Some things this film contains: Cursing A Beheading Overt Leering Pensive Hookah Smoking Star Crossed Lovering Caste Struggling Over Bearing Fathering Red Jacketed Gooning High Kicking Roundhousing Haunted Indoor Water Feature...ing Melodramatic Reveals Friendship Scooby-Doo Ganging Moody Music Rockin' Tunes Scary Face Jumpscares Creepy Caretakers Shirtless Training Sun

Love that ding dang movie. So much fun.

Alright mapped out a new option to watch next for Burd's #31NightsOfHorror tonight.

First time with All the Colors of the Dark (1972)
