Burd's #31NightsOfHorror 2024

At this point, the 9th(?) year of Burd's 31 Nights of Horror. (I'm legitimatly losing track at this point) Dang. A little more traditional. I'm not trying to overload this year. What does 2024 entail beyond the usual nightly horror movie watch and slew of BOO-nus 👻 entries? 1. Five Nights of hosting Fright in the Brites in the brewery 2. Kicking off Burd's #31NightsOfHorror with one of the first movies that I ever added to my Letterboxd Watchlist. Added it and never actually got to it. UNTIL NOW.

Magic (1978)

Two of the most terrifying things ever, a ventriloquist dummy and Anthony Hopkins.

Dolly Dearest is a strange artifact of early 90s horror but gosh if I don't still love it.

I've found the steam for one more tonight. A classic to really ease me into the spooky season.

So last night's 2n BOO-nus 👻 Watch was a nice lead in to tonight's first movie pick for Burd's #31NightsOfHorror.

This will be a First Time watch, although I've read the book and seen other adaptations.

Tonight's second film requires Burd's #31NightsOfHorror to go on a little field trip to The Music Box Theatre for a 35mm showing of Noroi: The Curse (2005).

Gods do I love Noroi. The 35mm print The Music Box showed was amazing. Apparently, Noroi has only been shown theatrically in North America 4 times including tonight.

This was also the first time this particular print has been shown in North America.

Great crowd for it. Burd's #31NightsOfHorror is taking off to a fantastic start.

Night 3 of Burd's #31NightsOfHorror is the return of 🍻Fright in the Brites🍻!

Every Thursday this month I've programmed a horror film to screen in the brewery where I work among the imposing stainless steel tanks.

This week's film is the Brazilian horror classic, At Midnight I'll Take Your Soul (1964)

Tonight's Fright in the Brites was a pretty good success.

Time for a Burd's #31NightsOfHorror BOO-nus 👻 Watch though. Noroi had me champing at the bit to revisit this truly undersung little J Horror.

I won't say it's gonna knock your socks off, but it is so successfully scary in a way that I just haven't seen much elsewhere.

Kidan: Piece of Darkness (2016) deserves infinitely more love.

The Sentinel was everything I hoped it'd be.

But I immediately had a hankering for it's predecessor and had to dig up a copy I could watch.

I remember when I wrote in the description of my list for Burd's #31NightsOfHorror this year: "I'm not *trying* to overload this year"

But, fuck it, I'm already 8 movies deep only 4 days in. Why not 9.

The original film is one of the earliest entries I ever did in one of my earlier Burd's #31NightsOfHorror.

Longlegs is pretty good. I may not be as enamored with it as some but I enjoyed myself nonetheless.

I originally had Frozen (2010) up next but I'm pulling a famous Burd's #31NightsOfHorror audible and making a substitution.

Love | Like | Indifferent | Dislike Samri has a great introduction. He is a little goofy but when they are reading off the list of demonic crimes, his demeanor, while in chains, is kinda like "yeah...what of it?". The club is dope. I'd want to hang out there. Great song too.
