On Mastodon, language models are useless for all tasks and can be willed out of existence "if everyone just…"s. On Threads, people are incuriously in awe of everything. On X, AGI has been achieved internally in frontier labs and anyone not working in ML will be in poverty by end-of-year.
AI denialism and maximalism both leave the holder unable to effectively advocate for people in the real world and predict trends. If you are consistently incredulous then you need to update your world model else you're leaving a lot of effectiveness on the field.

When you find yourself incredulous that something happened, that means you hit a dead end in the search tree of your thoughts. It is up to you whether or not you want to fill in that gap and expand your tree of thoughts, or bottom out on incredulity every time you see it.

“I can’t believe the AI bubble hasn’t popped yet.”

@kyle I like how everyone is wrong. Very real-world.
@mattiem Yes! Very important for calibration. The bubble effect is much stronger now than before The Schism.
@kyle Makes for a great training set IMO
