BECAUSE, OF COURSE THEY DID. 🤬

#NorthCarolina's State Board of Elections… acting on "complaints" from the #GOP… has removed 747,000 #voters from the voter roles on the grounds they are "ineligible" to vote (when the voters don't support you, don't bother trying to win them over, just stop them from voting.) 😒

And all it takes to get you scrubbed from the voter rolls is to MOVE WITHIN THE STATE TO A DIFFERENT PRECINCT.

Check your voter registration if you live in NC.

North Carolina removes 747,000 from voter rolls, citing ineligibility

North Carolina’s State Board of Elections has removed 747,000 people from its list of registered voters within the last 20 months, officials announced Thursday in a press release. The State Board o…

@MugsysRapSheet I often wonder why bourgeois democracy even deigns to offer a public vote at all. Its an incredibly inconvenient preoccupation to burden the Vichy with, making then invent culture war pablum and stoke fires of nationalism in order to secure their seats for another few years, and in turn simply serve the hand of imperialist capital as if the constituency were nothing more than a barking dog.
@MugsysRapSheet It is orders of magnitude easier to bulk remove people from the voters list than it is to have each individual reinstate themselves: Brandolini’s Law.

@MugsysRapSheet

When one moves, one must register to vote in that new location. Isn't that how voting has always worked everywhere? You can't vote for the mayor of Boston, MA, if you now live in Worcester, MA.

@fairhavenguy
No. In most states, Voter Registration is state wide. If you move, they simply update your address/registration at your polling station.

I've moved three times (here in #Texas) since I registered to vote at 18, and I've NEVER had to "re-register" just b/c I moved.

@MugsysRapSheet

They don't check off your name on the local voter rolls when you get your ballot?

I cannot vote across the river in New Bedford, MA, when I am registered as a voter in Fairhaven, MA. The two communities have different ballots, because in November we are also electing state representatives--and the city next door is in a different district than I'm in.

@fairhavenguy
Yes, they check your name & address when you vote. If you are trying to vote in the wrong precinct, they tell you.

If you move out of the city, but return just to vote for mayor, you've committed a crime. That's on YOU. But they can't "pro-actively" toss you off the voter rolls.

What if you move back before the election? 🤔

@MugsysRapSheet @fairhavenguy You must be white or republican or both.

@Catawu @MugsysRapSheet

You're half wrong, but it doesn't matter in this discussion. I have two Kamala Harris signs on my lawn and I'm from the very blue state of Massachusetts, where she will win big.

I also oppose unwarranted removal of registered voters from the rolls, but it is on us to make sure we're properly registered in the place where we vote.

I was only seeking clarification on the issue of whether or not one has to reregister if they move from one place to another within the same state.

I'm not going to assume ANYTHING about your race, political affiliation, gender identification, religion, or any other personal details based on a single comment you make on social media. I would expect the same in return.

@fairhavenguy @MugsysRapSheet It sounded like you were simplifying the issue because you had never been unfairly removed from voter rolls, never challenged at voting despite being registered, never faced with having to re-register despite voting every year and not having moved from the same residence in 20 years or more. A issue many others are facing. My apologies.

@Catawu @MugsysRapSheet

And it seems like you keep making unwarranted assumptions about a total stranger. It's really a bit annoying. Especially since I'm ON YOUR SIDE, Dammit!

@fairhavenguy @MugsysRapSheet Based on the comparison being made yes, I judge ‘a complete stranger’ on their selective avoidance of facts they know. Good day to you.
