#Cabernet is the most popular red #wine in the #US Can it endure #climatechange?
Rising temperatures are threatening the future of #NapaValley's prized #cabernetsauvignon, forcing #winemakers to adapt to increasingly severe #heatwaves. Some vineyards are experimenting with heat-tolerant #grape varieties to blend with cabernet, while others are investing in cooling technologies.https://www.npr.org/2024/09/09/nx-s1-5002055/wine-cabernet-napa-climate-change

@BenjaminHCCarr Of course, many already considered Napa a relatively warm climate that wasn't as fresh as, say, Bordeaux. It is of course impossible to generalize completely. Different producers, goals, terroirs produce differently styled wines even within a region.

But if it gets worse--that's arguably Calif's biggest claim to worldwide fame. Bordeaux, too, has been talking about adding additional allowed grapes. #wine

I'd bet on Touriga. Aglianico's great, but in Italy it performs best at altitude; maybe it needs diurnal temperature variation. Simplest solution is to sell your crazy expensive Napa vineyard while you can and set up someplace cooler.
