Accidental Tech Podcast: 606: A Decade of Half-Presses

Three nerds discussing tech, Apple, programming, and loosely related matters.

@atpfm on the heated headlight discussion with @siracusa : my 2015 Opel Zafira Tourer has a sliding door shutter - in fact , the headlights run continuously : only if you need the big beamers will the silder retract and allow the light outward. Had 1 broken headlight in 9 years.
@aertsbe That’s one more than I’ve ever had in 30+ years!

@siracusa count your blessings ! 😀.
But my main point is: even older, non-EV and non-futuristic cars have mechanical contraptions. So that’s not something you can blame modern EV car design.

Do shutter lights have advantages ? I have no idea - but they do have the numbers, so they’ll have a reason/competitive advantage , I guess ?

@aertsbe I can blame it on EVs! Yes, non-EVs have had dumb designs, but they’re way, way more prevalent on EVs. And in this particular case, we have a direct comparison with the non-EV version of the same car that has normal headlights.
