@taylorlorenz “You don’t have to work terribly hard to sum up this race as it stands: Harris is destroying Trump, because Trump is a deranged old s—tbag. See how easy that was?”
This is wishcasting at its worst. Harris is doing well and momentum seems to be in her favor but virtually every poll is within the margin of error and the GOP has an electoral college advantage.
That’s not “destroying”.
It really does feel like A. G. Sulzberger is the sycophantic dweeb who will do anything to be in the cool kids billionaires club. What a loser.
@taylorlorenz That's not fair!
The NYT goes out of its way to *avoid* any & all criticism from the Republican Party - meaning it anticipates what will make legacy GOPers, or even MAGA "intellectuals", happy & does its best to provide it.
- which NYT is in no way alone doing in the current #press / #media landscape, nor does it affect only US media, but NYT does display a particular panache about it...
@taylorlorenz The New York Times is in the business of selling advertising space.
When will people understand this?
@taylorlorenz It’s indisputable that the NYT carefully positions itself for maximum influence, and this means that when fascism is rising they normalize fascism.
This even happened the first time around. The Jewish publisher soft-pedaled Holocaust stories, fearing losing influence in Gentile society if they seemed too Jewish.

However, the article opens with a silly complaint that the NYT is a buzzkill for still treating a Trump victory as plausible. It is!
