"hey if you want to play our game which infringes on a bunch of nintendo copyrights, just join our discord server for the download!"

great! make sure no one has a chance to archive the download, that'll be handy when Nintendo shows up with a cease and desist.

oh and the entire contents of the readme.txt file is just a link back to their discord
It's surprising how many people are excited to join the war on lost media, on the side of losing media
To keep up with industry standards, my next game will be released by embedding it into a PNG I'll post on 4chan's /b/ board. So you'll have like an hour to download if you're lucky
@foone I love an art project predicated on a heady concept
@foone ahh the 'cave story hidden in the tomato girl picture' gag

@foone that reminds me I have a few "this image contains secrets" pictures around from the before* times that I never managed to solve. Surely I know enough tricks by now.

...Actually, I'm not sure I want to solve them considering where they're from.

*Before I realized that was Not A Good Place

@julesthefox

you dont have any early releases of Dangerous Kitten, do you?
They mostly seem to be unpreserved.

@foone

@HauntedOwlbear I don't seem to on my primary nor auxiliary PCs... But it doesn't feel like the kind of thing I would delete so carelessly so one might yet survive on my older tech.
@foone Does no one archive /b/?

I must confess I mostly paid attention to /tg/ archives...
@lispi314 @foone I mean, it's the random board, wouldn't be surprised if nobody is bothering because most of it is utter junk
@Reiddragon @foone An on-request archive for particular threads wouldn't be as surprising though.
@lispi314 @foone oh of course, tho it's pretty rare, last thing I can think of that happened on /b/ and got archived is the 3301 messages
@foone embedding archival data within games is an interesting idea because people don't question their large data sizes
@foone ok but do you mean that the image will be embedded in the graphics or in the metadata (which might get scrubbed by archival software)
the metadata description field will just contain a link to their Discord

@foone don't forget to make it not work without data it downloads from twitter at runtime
@foone I'm finding it more hilarious what people are considering lost media... "No one has decompiled GTA London 1961 for PC and ported it to PS1, so it's lost media"
@biggestsonicfan bro you just made that up
Stuart Lugsden  (@AGuyWhoTweet5) on X

@falco_girgis Can you guys try and port GTA 1961 to the PS1? https://t.co/9OSQbnX7Hc

X (formerly Twitter)
@biggestsonicfan I don’t mean this as a dunk but I genuinely couldn’t care less about what people on twitter are getting irrationally angry about
@sky Absolutely fair and valid. My point is that it's too oddly specific and dumb to make up on the spot 😩
@biggestsonicfan @foone this concept for a game that was never made is lost media
@irina @foone Ah, a tried-and-true classic right there
@foone would love your advice on how individuals can help the archiving front!
@foone we need to send Kyle Reese back in time to prevent Discord from ever coming online
@foone How many people died on the War on Lost Media?
@foone so they're stupid?
@foone on the far backburner is a project to join every discord server and upload it to the internet archive
@perplexes @foone Discord would 100% find some reason to call that a ToS violation and do what they can to prevent it, though. They like having users locked into their ecosystem and don't want to make it easy to leave. Plus finding discord servers isn't easy - often you need an invite. I guess you could spider the web for public invites, but they're often in places like... inside of software.
@ZetaZetan @foone for sure. Probably more like, how many ToS’s would this violate.

@foone Are you offering to host? It sounds like, to me, discord is their host of last resort.

I mean, it's dumb, but I don't think it is malicious. At worst, lazy.

A magnet link and an IPFS URI would be nice, even if Discord is the preferred source (for simplicity?) until the corporate overlords nuke it from there.

@foone They should call those a "Cease to Exist".
@foone and meanwhile discord scraping everyone data.
@foone how many things are happening right now?
