When did you first discover Linux? No matter your Linux origin story, today's the day it all began. Happy #linuxbirthday to the OG kernel! #rockycommunity
@rockylinux
1998 in my childhood. My father played around with the first KDE Desktop.
2008 i tested linux on desktop first time on my PC
~2009 i installed the first linux server for my community (Teamspeak, Owncloud, some other)
Now i am a Linux Administrator and Deploy Containersystems with Linux
@CaptainMalu
@corincorvus @rockylinux I can't remember how I discovered linux.
I started studying Business informatics in 2009 and the pcs at the university run linux.
I also didn't liked windows and the pricing so I tried ubuntu 10.04 at home.
But I really think I knew linux at that point and tried it some times before 2010. But I can't remember or find any evidence.
It needed some years until I switched fully to linux. But I'm windows free since 2016.

@CaptainMalu @rockylinux Iam not Windows free 😭

Programs like Fusion360 dont work good in VM or with Wine. I tried often, my newest Tests was with Tuxedo Desktop on my PC last Month.. no chance. I need Fusion for creating Models for my 3D Prints. Good Alternatives i didnt find.

Other Programs like Insta360 Studio work poor, but they work. The most of my Office work for Home are on my Nextcloud or similar Webapps. Only my Laptop is Linux Tuxedo.

@corincorvus @rockylinux I use FreeCAD. It is pain. But never ever will I use Fusion. It's like Adobe or Apple. My creations are mine and don't belong into the cloud.
It's annoying that so much software isn't available.
I had to update the firmware of my mouse once. My boyfriend had to do it for me as it was only possible with windows.
And resin printig... Lychee is somehow working and there isn't so much opensource as in the fdm space.

@CaptainMalu @rockylinux The Free Version of Fusion360 is not so awful like the other Versions. Onshape or similar only work in Cloud and you need to agree, that your projects are shared with all.

I only use Fusion360 offline and load local projects. So i dont use the cloud in many cases.

Yes Firmware Updates for Devices are horrible. Every time you need a Windows for the driver. My Mous is not supported by Piper. For every Buttonchange i need Windows.

@CaptainMalu @rockylinux

For 3D Printing with Resin i use Lychee too.

For FDM you can use Orcaslicer. The appimage Version work very well on the most systems. With the Appimagelauncher you can integrate it with Links in the startmenu. Orcaslicer is the best FDM Slicer i think for all Printers.

@corincorvus @rockylinux yeah I switched to orcaslicer some weeks ago. It's really nice. I did use cura and prusaslicer before.
Also the connection to octoprint and klipper works really good.

I have 5 fdm printer with octoprint or klipper and it's really nice to just slice and click send to print.
But Anycubic had to build there own network printing thing for the kobra 3 so I have to carry the usb stick everytime I want to use the printer.

@CaptainMalu @rockylinux 5 Printer are nice 😵 I have 1 😕 FDM and one Resin. Space for more Printers i have, but no Money, cause we have other priorities at the moment. In the Future i want to add some Printer.
@corincorvus @rockylinux yes it is expensive and the space...
Other people have a fitness room we have a printer room. 😂
