தலை சிறந்த திறந்த நிலை இயங்குதளம்( best opensource software) எதுவென்று கேட்டால், நம்மில் பலருக்கும் லினக்ஸ்(Linux)தான் நினைவிற்கு வரும்.

விண்டோஸ்(windows),மேக்(mac) போன்ற ஒரு குறிப்பிட்ட நிறுவனத்தை சாராத , முற்று முழுதாக பயனர்களுக்கு முழு உரிமையையும், வழங்கக்கூடிய ஒரு ஆகச்  சிறந்த நிலை இயங்குதளமாக இயங்குகிறது லினக்ஸ்.

ஆனால்,  இந்த லினக்ஸ் இயங்குதளத்தை தொடங்கும் போது, இதன் வெற்றி இந்த அளவிற்கு இருக்கும்! என்று யாரும் எதிர்பார்த்து இருக்கவில்லை.

இதே நாளில் (ஆகஸ்ட் 25) 1991 ஆம் ஆண்டு திருவாளர். லினஸ் பெனடிக்ட் டர்வோல்ட்ஸ் (MR.Linus Benedict Torvolds) அவர்களால் அறிமுகப்படுத்தப்பட்டது தான், லினக்ஸ் இயங்குதளம்.

அடிப்படையில் இதை அவர் ஒரு பொழுதுபோக்கிற்காகவே செய்தார், என்பது வேடிக்கையான விஷயம் தான்.

அவருடைய லினக்ஸ் வெளியீடு குறித்த மின் மடலை படிக்கும் போது, ( 1991 இல் எழுதிய மின் மடல்) இது தொடர்பாக மேலும் அறிந்து கொள்ள முடிகிறது. அந்த மூல மின் மடலின் புகைப்படம் கீழே உங்களுக்காக கொடுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

AT&T நிறுவனம் உருவாக்கிய யூனிக்ஸ் இயங்குதலத்திற்கு மாற்றாக , GNU அடிப்படையிலான இயங்குதளங்கள் 80களில் உருவாகத் தொடங்கியது.

ஆனால், லினக்ஸ் உருவானதற்கு பின்னால், prince of persia ( பெர்சிய நாட்டின் இளவரசர்) எனும் வீடியோ கேமின் பங்கு முக்கியமானது.

அந்த கேமை தன்னுடைய கணினியில் விளையாடும் போது, ஏற்பட்ட சிக்கல்களை தீர்க்க அவருடைய கணினியில் இருந்து இயங்குதளம் அனுமதிக்கவில்லை.

எனவே , தனக்கான ஒரு திறந்த நிலை இயங்குதளத்தை உருவாக்க வேண்டும், எனும் ஏக்கம் 21 வயதான லினஸ் க்கு ஏற்பட்டது.

அதன் நீட்சியாகவே, சில மாத காலங்களில் லினக்ஸ் இயங்குதளத்தை உருவாக்கி காட்டினார்.

அதைத்தொடர்ந்து, 1991 அக்டோபர் மாதத்தில் இரண்டாவது பதிப்பு வெளியிடப்பட்டது.

இன்றைக்கு உலகில் இருக்கும், பெரும்பாலான கணினி பிரியர்களுக்கு லினக்ஸ் தனது இயங்குதள அனுபவத்தால் விருந்தளித்து வருகிறது.

லினக்ஸ் இயங்குதளத்தின் சிறப்புகள் எண்ணிலடங்காதது. அது குறித்து, நூற்றுக்கணக்கான கட்டுரைகள் நமது கணியம் இணையதளத்தில் கூட கிடைக்கின்றன.

ஆனால் இன்றளவும் நம்மில் பலருக்கும் லினக்ஸ் குறித்த விழிப்புணர்வு குறைவாக இருக்கிறது, என்பது கவனிக்க வேண்டிய விஷயம் தான்.

கருத்துக்கள் ஒரு புறம் இருந்தாலும், லினக்ஸ் எனும் ஆகச் சிறந்த இயங்குதளம், தனது முதல் பதிப்பை எடுத்து வைத்து இன்றோடு 33 ஆண்டுகள் நிறைவடைகிறது.
