Funding for #openscience and @OpenScienceNL is being cut per government's plans that were published today. It is very disappointing that the Netherlands is jeopardizing its leadership position in open science, but open science remains essential. We will continue to push for the transition. We'll respond further once the cuts are clear.

Incredibly disappointed by this news that after a decade of active support the Dutch government will cut back on #openscience. The large societal challenges can simply not be solved with #closedscience.

@HLdeJonge is it an overall funding cut, or do they mention specific aspects that were not working (eg APCs)?

@mikemorrison it’s a cut on the national program (www.openscience.nl) started 2 years ago to accelerate the transition and support institutions to invest in public infrastructure, capacity building and communities. No APCs.

@HLdeJonge that sucks. Thanks for explaining though. Did any big wins come out of it? What was working well that will now break?
