My tactic:

• iPhone on cellular (Verizon in my case)
• Regularly force-quit the Apple Store app
• Use the link they email you after you do your pre-preorder

My computer (FiOS) and iPad (also VZW) have not gotten in yet. The iPad is sitting on “Please stay on this page until we can bring you in for pre-order.”
