Meta has admitted it used all its users’ public posts on its platforms going back to 2007 to train its AI models during an Australian senate inquiry.

The only exception was for users in the European Union who opted out.

Facebook admits to scraping every Australian adult user's public photos and posts to train AI, with no opt-out option

Facebook has admitted that it scrapes the public photos, posts and other data of Australian adult users to train its AI models and provides no opt-out option, even though it allows people in the European Union to refuse consent.

ABC News

@parismarx
“In June, Meta notified users in the European Union and United States that it would use their data to train its generative AI products, such as Meta AI, unless users opted out.”

So if I used FB from ? until 2017 did they use my data since I wasn’t on the service to see opt out option? I still have IG account but have never posted anything. I have not seen that option presented to me by email or when I log on.

@parismarx After they sold everybody's data to whoever would buy it, they dumped it into an AI. Big deal. What did anybody think Facebook was doing with "their" data? Safeguarding it?

@parismarx Why is there people still on Meta I can't quite understand
@johnmastodon I wish it was not so, but my main close online community remains there and almost none have embraced Mastodon despite my continued praise.
@johnmastodon Because FB is the only way to keep in touch with some friends and family. I did leave for a while, and I haven't been using it nearly as much after my return so I might leave completely eventually, but that would mean losing contact with a bunch of people. (And a significant amount less people watching my YouTube videos.)
@johnmastodon Also, sadly FB pages have replaced web sites for some small organisations. Earlier this week I saw an ad for local dance courses, and the only way to find out more was to go to their FB page.
@rikard Using Meta and twitter is consenting abuse. People just avoid stating it

@parismarx @lisamelton all my stuff is private but still… fuckers

Need new privacy laws in Australia

@parismarx

All the posts??

So all the propaganda, all the many lies, went into training their AI model??

@parismarx
I am now even more happy i
1.live in Europe
2. Left FB
