Facebook admits to scraping every Australian adult user's public photos and posts to train AI, with no opt-out option

Facebook has admitted that it scrapes the public photos, posts and other data of Australian adult users to train its AI models and provides no opt-out option, even though it allows people in the European Union to refuse consent.

@parismarx Why is there people still on Meta I can't quite understand
@johnmastodon Because FB is the only way to keep in touch with some friends and family. I did leave for a while, and I haven't been using it nearly as much after my return so I might leave completely eventually, but that would mean losing contact with a bunch of people. (And a significant amount less people watching my YouTube videos.)
@johnmastodon Also, sadly FB pages have replaced web sites for some small organisations. Earlier this week I saw an ad for local dance courses, and the only way to find out more was to go to their FB page.
@rikard Using Meta and twitter is consenting abuse. People just avoid stating it
