mastodon is the only platform where i’ve had people actively tell me multiple times “hey try using hashtags!”

i will never use hashtags

people on tumblr and cohost-type sites will also tell u to tag, but this is a very different kind of tagging experience imo

people on IRC also use hashtags a lot and say "oh join us on #cool #word on this server" but I join the server and it's just a bunch of weird messages from guys named MOTD and ChanServ there's no discoverability
