My nephew was in the same class as the shooter in Georgia.

The shooter got up, left the classroom, my nephew heard multiple gun shots, and then shooter attempted to get back in the classroom.

Someone my nephew shared a school bus with is dead. Our society continues to fail our children, and too many of us appear unmotivated to solve these issues.

@poppastring 💔💔💔 The GQP is bought and paid for by the NRA 🤬🤬🤬

@poppastring because those issues are not intended to be solved, as that would mean providing #accessible and #affordable #MentalHealthCare without stigmatization...

#StochasticTerrorism is politically desired!

@kkarhan @poppastring meh. I think the most dangerous (whether mentally ill or not) person alive couldn’t cause as much harm as easily if they had no access to guns.

@MxVerda @poppastring I disagree, as the problem is never access.

  • That ship died with the invention of the #Luty-SMG & #FGC9 Carbine and even the most restrictive juristictions like #Germany and #Japan evidence this to not be effective.

The problem is that people not only get penalized for and actively prevented from seeking help with whatever drives them to choose such actions BUT also get rewarded with airtime for said actions.

@[email protected] The problem ain't guns but the normalization of #StochasticTerrorism and the fact that #mainstream #MassMedia [reward it with airtime]( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3VQULyT390 )! - If #MentalHealthcare and social support was available this shit wouldn't be that rampant!!!

@kkarhan @poppastring
People generally don’t go on mass murder sprees with kitchen knives, as far as I’m aware
@poppastring This is really horrible. I am so sad for your nephew and all their friends and classmates. I don't know, if I were able to send my kids to school, if this happened regularly in my country.
@poppastring
So sorry - i have family in the area, but their kids are in middle school so....I was only terrified for a few minutes this morning. 😔
This shit has to stop in America. I will never understand people that love #guns more than children.

@poppastring

No words are sufficient to describe such horror and the emotions it generates in me.

Words being unworthy of the circumstances, I pledge to continue to do everything I can to elect people who value our children more than gun industry campaign cash.

Please hold your nephew tight when you see him.

@poppastring
I'm sorry for the trauma experienced by your nephew and all of the other survivor students and faculty and for the unfathomable tragedy experienced by the families who lost loved ones.

The societal failure you speak of rests squarely with legislators who fail to act, lobbyists who sanction firearm deaths by fearmongering that "they're coming for your guns" — i.e., every gun, and a part — but not all — of the US voting public.

We can and must do better.

@poppastring

So sorry you have to be strong and clear about terror. Thank you, take care of yourself and yours.

@poppastring I’m so sorry! This breaks my heart and I’m thinking of y’all. This shouldn’t be happening.
@poppastring unspeakable tragedy, yet again. Republicans have forever blocked any and all meaningful gun control legislation....to vote for any Republican candidate is to vote for continuing this horrific situation. It's not the full and only solution, but they are a huge roadblock in making meaningful change.

@poppastring I’m sorry for your nephew. Can you get him out of the state? Or the South?

Wonder if he will grow up to be a Republican? If he gets to become an adult, that is.

@poppastring I'm glad your nephew is safe.

We've HAD metal detectors in the hood. Parts of America have higher death rates than warzones

As the "middle class" is stressed, and memes that were wielded to destroy the black community & prevent mutual aid proliferate, gun violence is FINALLY being taken seriously.

But WHY does America have a mental health crisis? Address guns, but society is serving the economy, and that's backwards.

When Republicans say it's not gun's fault, blame capitalism.

@poppastring some ppl only care cuz it's happening in the wrong neighborhoods

I think that the extent to which propaganda & economic measures backfire & corrupt the groups perpetuating them is ironic. Maybe one day society will be so segregated that owners could indoctrinate the productive masses without deluding themselves, but that day's further off than some imagine. Just as exceptionalism bit the Nazis, our own exceptionalism / deindustrialization /financialization is finally bearing fruit

@poppastring like, America's warped imperialism sews the seeds of its own downfall. Overinvesting in Europe after WW2 while purposely under investing in the global South, only to begin placing all the capital in China as a kind of Faustian bargain to break the USSR due to overvaluing Europe and underestimating all other populations. Even today, our foreign policy is warped by kleptocrats overinvesting in the wrong places, personally benefitting from America's decline.

Not judging, but ironic.

@poppastring above my pay-grade, merely a depoliticized prole in the imperial core watching the kleptocrats get high on their own ideological supply.
Sad.

Edit: contradictions inherent to the system, misaligned incentives, rulers incentivized to benefit their elite patronage networks, etc. idk how to fix things, they are incentivized to regulate things in a way which maximizes rent extraction for their buddies.

Something something, second-order cybernetics political bureaucracy sortition idk
