Anybody have any good resources for learning how to sew/mend? Figured the fedi probably has some nice resources 🧐

The responses to this post FAR exceeded my expectations! Thank you to everyone who contributed their experience & ideas - I will be putting all these recommendations to use & hitting my local library ♡
@laurel any small guide to Sashiko/burp is usually extremely good
@laurel I’m sorry, I meant boro

@laurel (omg ping me too! I just got a hand-me-down sewing machine and a need to make yukata)

Also Ravelry? Lots of youtube tutorials, but I really prefer text with (enough) photos.

@laurel boosted - I learned to sew/mend from my grandmother, but not everyone has that resource.

@laurel
I have sewn all my life and taught myself originally from the instruction sheets inside commercial patterns. If you follow those you won't go far wrong.

Go to your local sewing store. The staff will be delighted to help and tell you which patterns are easiest: Id start with "Simplicity" tbh.

Many years later, I found this book 👇 in a 2nd hand book shop. It's THE most comprehensive and clearly written handbook I've ever EVER seen.

Just checked on ebay. It's still out there.

@laurel Try “Mending Life: A Handbook for Repairing Clothes and Hearts”.
