America’s ultra-rich are sitting on $8.5 trillion in untaxed capital gains.

Even on money that is taxed, the rich are making out like bandits.

In 41 states, the top 1% pay lower tax rates than everyone else.

When I say the system is rigged for the wealthy, this is what I mean.

@rbreich A trillion is kinda enough to start getting some serious work done on something. It really is time for us all, everyone, to start treating this as a problem that needs solving, not as any kind of 'status quo'.
@rbreich The wealthy bastards seem to think the middle class will not come for them and give them a Mussolini.
@rbreich More is never enough for these empty abysses.
@rbreich “untaxed capital gains”. You made some similar comment yesterday, referring to “unrealized capital gains”. Where does this $8.5B number come from - and what is the definition of “ultra-rich”? I’m sympathetic to tax reform and higher rates, but this statement is too vague and simplistic to make any real sense.
@rbreich if you can afford a lobbyist laws don’t apply to you
@rbreich the defensive responses to your post in endemic of our political situation. Every word you stated is being attacked from “what do you mean by ultra rich?” To “are you sure it’s not .001%?”. Meanwhile Trump says he’ll make a healthcare plan better than the ACA and nobody says umm “how?”

@Britz @rbreich

This.

And remember in 2016 when Bernie Sanders was attacked in headlines by the MSM and by Republicans for having TWO separate plans to break up the big banks?

He said he would do it differently depending on who had control of the Senate. They still said he was not serious unless he had one single, strong plan.

Of course, it was fine that Trump had no plan and never even tried to get it done.

Seems only a handful of us voters have memories that last beyond 12 hours.
