#ElonMusk is posting information to portray both Mastodon and Instagram as child pornography sites.

These two social networks are X competitors, and Musk is using his own social network to misrepresent his competitors to 196 million followers.

Imagine if 196 million Volkswagen drivers received multiple messages on their car stereo from the CEO of Volkswagen that other car brands were "child porn car brands".

I doubt European competition laws would allow that.

@randahl It's a direct consequence of the Mastodon software being open source. There's a whole ecosystem of Japanese sites running it that would be deemed child porn in western jurisdictions - but it's completely sealed off from the Fediverse proper. There is also one site running Mastodon software featuring a notorious malignant narcissist and would-be dictator spouting his filth and lies, it too closed off from the actual Fediverse.

@martinvermeer @randahl I'm not sure what you're talking about so I might be off base here but: I don't think art is considered child porn in the West. Not in the US, at least.

@winterayars @randahl My understanding is that it is about drawn renderings, like animations (or nowadays generative AI), not involving real children, but otherwise pornographic. Usually not 'art'.
