LinusTechTips just recommended Ente Auth as the best 2FA app out there 😊

Compared to the rest, Auth is
- Cross-platform
- End-to-end encrypted
- Fully #opensource, and
- Free!

@ente is it possible to port my tokens from e.g. authy? Or do I need to go to every service and add a new token?
@root42 @ente Ente Auth supports importing tokens, however, unfortunately Authy doesn't support exporting codes, so if you use that, you have to remove and re-add 2FA on your accounts.
@root42 @ente Authy does not, as far as I know, offer an export function. So you have to move all manually from there. I do the same at the moment and move every few days one or two accounts from Authy.
@gumbario @root42 @ente I used this a couple years ago, I assume it still works https://gist.github.com/gboudreau/94bb0c11a6209c82418d01a59d958c93

@gumbario
There's a way to do it, check my other reply.

Let me know if you need help, I might be able to lend a hand.

@root42 @ente unless someone can correct me, but usually with 2fa services you can't just transfer them cause you don't have access to actual original codes for the code generation inside the app
@thibaultmol @root42 It depends on the service. With Ente Auth you can export your original secrets if you wish to migrate to a different service. No lock-ins.

@thibaultmol
That is indeed correct.

However, in the case of Authy, you can use a specific version of the Windows app to access a webserver the app runs and extract the original seeds for the 2FA generation via the developer menu. And yes, it needs to be that particular version because that got patched out in later versions.

That saved me A LOT of grief when moving over to Vaultwarden.

Might need to check out @ente, to see how it fares in comparison.
@root42

@nanianmichaels @ente @root42 I assumed because their desktop apps are discontinued that logging in via any windows app, including that old one, just didn't work anymore

@thibaultmol I just saw that they had discontinued the Windows app this past March.

If you can't log in anymore through them, then yes, you're SOL and need to do it the hard way.

Hopefully they only stopped updating the app, not outright prevent it from connecting to their servers... :|

@ente And it’s available through a website without the need for a phone number. This is great for me because I manage the 2FA in the company I work for, and we need three different 2FA accounts for each department. Thank you!
@ente Heard about Ente because of this Video and I'm currently moving over to Ente Auth! Awesome work! Thanks!
@ente this one has been wanting to switch from Authy, but hadn't yet found an option it liked so when it heard the Ente recommendation it immediately switched and has had zero problems
