LinusTechTips just recommended Ente Auth as the best 2FA app out there 😊

Compared to the rest, Auth is
- Cross-platform
- End-to-end encrypted
- Fully #opensource, and
- Free!

@ente is it possible to port my tokens from e.g. authy? Or do I need to go to every service and add a new token?
@root42 @ente unless someone can correct me, but usually with 2fa services you can't just transfer them cause you don't have access to actual original codes for the code generation inside the app

@thibaultmol
That is indeed correct.

However, in the case of Authy, you can use a specific version of the Windows app to access a webserver the app runs and extract the original seeds for the 2FA generation via the developer menu. And yes, it needs to be that particular version because that got patched out in later versions.

That saved me A LOT of grief when moving over to Vaultwarden.

Might need to check out @ente, to see how it fares in comparison.
@root42

@nanianmichaels @ente @root42 I assumed because their desktop apps are discontinued that logging in via any windows app, including that old one, just didn't work anymore

@thibaultmol I just saw that they had discontinued the Windows app this past March.

If you can't log in anymore through them, then yes, you're SOL and need to do it the hard way.

Hopefully they only stopped updating the app, not outright prevent it from connecting to their servers... :|
