When you use a mac with a mouse and scroll wheel, the "natural scrolling" for the trackpad which aligns with iPad gestures, (and is generally good) is the opposite of the direction on the mouse's scroll wheel, but you cannot configure them independently.

@Schneems SteerMouse might let you control these things separately. They have a free trial that is fully functional.

@davetron5000 Great idea. Do you use it? Are you happy with it?

I already use USB overdrive (similar) for some other customizations, but didn't consider using that zoom level to fix the problem.

I don't mind paying for software but my one worry with relying on proprietary stuff is that most utilities like this become abandonware at some point and forking and fixing isn't and option.

@Schneems SteerMouse has been around for a while, but yeah, it's no guarantee.

I use it on my mom's computer to disable right-clicking, but I don't use it for myself. Recommended by @atpfm who are some fussy mousers.

I think the free trial is like 30 days so you might be able to get a feel for it w/out paying

@davetron5000 @Schneems I’m very happy using SteerMouse to configure my Ploopy trackball. It does let you configure scroll wheel direction independently of the system-wide natural scrolling configuration. (The main thing I use it for is making one of my trackball buttons a sticky switch to use the trackball itself for scrolling.)
