Stonehenge’s enigmatic centre stone was hauled 800 kilometres from Scotland

By assessing the age of ancient crystals, researchers have traced the monument’s greenish Altar Stone to a northern rock basin.

@mattotcha Of course one can imagine a cortege transporting the stone, possibly as a ceremony to unite the tribes along the way, but I'd rather bet on that the stone was deposited much nearer as a glacial erratic stone by the last glacial maximum, some 26,000 - 20,000 years ago.

Many glacial erratic stones were worshiped and became sources of legends, perhaps there was one in the vicinity, already famous, ideal for being the altar-stone at Stonehenge.
